Allison Transmission Inc., an Indianapolis-based maker of automatic transmissions and hybrid propulsion systems, has manufactured its 1 millionth 3000 Series transmission. It has been installed in a Freightliner M2 chassis in Lyon Station, Pa.

The truck is being leased from Penske Truck Leasing Co. of Reading, Pa., to long-time lease customer East Penn Manufacturing in Pennsylvania.

"We’re very pleased to be in receipt of a milestone Allison 3000 series transmission," said Brian Hard, Penske Truck Leasing president and CEO. "Allison and Penske have enjoyed a long and successful working relationship. We are fortunate to provide this leased vehicle to a valued customer like East Penn Manufacturing."

East Penn Manufacturing is brand loyal to Allison and to Penske.

"East Penn has been specifying premium Allison automatic transmissions since 2002," said Mike Dietrich, East Penn fleet operations manager. "We currently have over 50 Allison transmissions in our fleet. Allison transmissions have delivered the superior dependability and performance that our company needs so our trucks can deliver the highest level of customer service."

Jim Wanaselja, VP of North American marketing, sales and service for Allison Transmission, said it is gratifying to achieve such longevity.

"Allison Transmission is proud to be able to celebrate this milestone with valued customers," Wanaselja said.

A plaque commemorating the special transmission has been given to all parties involved.

Allison 3000 Series transmissions are used in a variety of applications and in school buses, fire and emergency vehicles and motor homes. Allison fully automatic transmissions, with torque converter technology, provide superior acceleration, high productivity, good fuel efficiency, low drive-line shock and smooth shifting. They are considered of a higher quality than manual transmissions and automated manual transmissions.

Allison Transmission's fully automatic transmissions are typically installed in medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, medium- and heavy-tactical U.S. military vehicles and hybrid-propulsion systems for transit buses. Founded in 1915, Allison is headquartered in Indianapolis, employs 2,750 people and sells product in 80 countries. There are regional headquarters in China, The Netherlands, Brazil, India and Japan.

Penske Truck Leasing is a joint venture of Penske Corp., Penske Automotive Group and General Electric. Penske leases more than 200,000 vehicles from more than 1,000 locations in North America, South America, Europe and Asia.
