Honda may have sold just 83,892 vehicles in America in June, a dive of 24.3% compared with year-ago levels, but the high-mpg Fit subcompact is a hot ticket that gives the carmaker hope for better things to come. Plus, Honda's year-to-date sales of 607,442 cars and trucks show a respectable increase of 1.6% when comparing 2011 to 2010.

Although production limitations resulting from the March 11 earthquake in Japan are slowly getting better, limited vehicle supplies continue to keep sales modest.

Honda sold 75,184 vehicles in June, down 24.5%. Sales of the subcompact Fit rose 20% (4,912 units), reflecting Americans' need right now for a fuel-efficient vehicle to offset high gasoline prices.

Most people who wanted Hondas in June went old school by buying the best-selling Civic (17,485 cars) and Accord (17,107 units sold in June). While the numbers appear robust, they're still down more than 35% for both models when compared with June 2010 numbers.

Honda's luxury division, Acura, sold 8,708 vehicles in June, down 22.8%. But year-to-date sales are OK at 60,680, a decrease of just 1.4% compared with 2010.

The MDX was the top seller for Acura with 3,374 units sold, followed by the TL (2,296 sales) and TSX (1,808 car sold).
