The 2012 Scion iQ premium micro-subcompact car, which is coming to market later this year, will be ready to drive for the first time next month in Detroit at a press preview. TorqueNews.com will be there to provide first impressions of the car after the ride and drive event.
Reserved for the automotive press, this day-long program is scheduled for Oct. 19 at the College for Creative Studies’ Taubman Center for Design Education in downtown Detroit.
Scion says in a statement released today that the Scion iQ was created to meet the needs of a new, trendsetting generation of urban drivers.
The iQ, which will start at $15,995 when it comes to dealer showeooms, took shape by taking big ideas and concentrating them into a small package. Made possible by intelligent and functional packaging, the iQ is a small car that offers the functionality and comfort that drivers expect from a car twice its size.
As TN Managing Editor Patrick Rall reported earlier, buyers can expect Pandora radio integration and for those who opt for the higher end models, navigation will be included as well. Like all Scion models, American buyers can expect that the iQ will come with a similar accessory catalog with items like body kits and wheels on the outside along with performance mods such as lowering springs and cold air intakes.
This invitation-only program will feature a presentation by Jack Hollis, VP at Scion. There will also be a number of vehicles available for local driving opportunities, in and around the Motor City.
The event starts at 9:30 a.m. in the Valade Gallery. A formal presentation is at 10 a.m. Cars will be driven shortly after the conclusion of the presentation, through 3 p.m.
The Taubman Center at the College for Creative Studies is located at 460 W. Baltimore Ave., Detroit.
