Rolls-Royce Motor Cars spent the Independence Day weekend showing off a special Phantom Drophead Coupé, a hand-crafted luxury car that delivers a striking blue exterior and an awesome roof-down driving experience.
Assembled at Rolls-Royce headquarters in Goodwood, England, the luxury car's mandate is to "capture the essence of a perfect weekend get-away, offering drivers and their passengers the ultimate luxurious and relaxing experience in roof-down motoring," the carmaker says in a statement.
The Masterpiece London 2011 Drophead Coupé (pictured) is equipped with leather seats and an Asprey jewelry box, nestled conveniently within the confines of the glove compartment. The special box holds rings, cufflinks and earrings. It is stylish and secure storage for essential valuables.
“Craftsmanship and attention to detail shine through in features developed at Goodwood and in partnership with Asprey,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, chief executive of the iconic luxury car marque. “It’s a model that demonstrates the breadth of our bespoke offering, where the only limit to what we can deliver is a client’s imagination.”
The jewelry case takes two working days to make. Its earring holder is detachable and can be interchanged for use with clip earrings or stud styles. There are also two additional sections for cufflinks and a separate compartment for rings. An embossed silver foil Asprey stamp finishes the feature.
The Masterpiece 2011 Drophead Coupé is the first Rolls-Royce ever manufactured in Mazarine Blue, with a bespoke finish that joins a palette of 44,000 shades previously available to the well-heeled clients who can afford to order Phantoms. This eye-catching color is fetching. It takes inspiration from the Mazarine Blue butterfly, which is plentiful in the South of England.
The luxurious natural-grain leather interior comes in Seashell with Navy Blue contrast for floor and door panels with embroidered R-R logos finished in headrests, a Rolls-Royce spokesman said. The car has a yacht-inspired teak decking, with mother-of-pearl inlays throughout cross-banded Santos Palissander wood veneers. White instrument dials, rotary controllers and clock finished in mother-of-pearl punctuate the design.
The special coupe will remain on display at the Masterpiece London event through the end of the day Tuesday at the South Grounds of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea, England.

I don't really like the front
I don't really like the front and the headlamps; the grille is too square and the lamps too circular; they look like eyes. And omg, a compartment for jewelry? Are you serious? I guess this car is meant for royalty or heads of states. I can't imagine someone storing jewelry in their car. What for? Why on heaven's name would someone need to store their Rolex in their car? Makes no sense. How about something useful like a slot to store you registration papers or a cell phone? Or a cup holder?
