What kid growing up hasn't wanted to be Batman? Well, it's not quite the same thing but you can own the Batmobile if you get the winning bid at the Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale auction.
The Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale auction will be held March 4-6. It is expected the Batmobile will fetch anywhere from $200,000 to $275,000 when it comes up for bid. That would be quite a coup because this Batmobile cost Warner Brothers a reported $2.5 million as a promotional vehicle. Of course, the producers might have just claimed it cost that much so they could keep reported profits low for their investors.
The only downside is this Batmobile is from the 1995 Batman Forever, starring Val Kilmer, Jim Carrey, Nicole Kidman and Tommy Lee Jones. To paraphrase the Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons, Kilmer was The Worst. Batman. Ever. Heck, even George Clooney was a better Batman.
According to auction materials, this Batmobile, with a fiberglass body and custom tubular chassis, is in full operational mode. Well, it runs and you can drive it. Let's put it that way. It's most likely not armed for fighting Two Face or the Riddler, the two villains featured in Batman Forever.
There's an interesting caveat attached to this auction. Warner Brothers’ Consumer Products Division must approve the winning bidder. So, if you're an evil villain like Dr. Freeze or Poison Ivy, you're probably not going to be allowed to take the Batmobile home from the Collectors Car of Fort Lauderdale auction that is run by Auctions America by RM. Information on the auction is available at its website.
