Careers are on the upswing at Ford with the announcement of 7000 new jobs. Hiring begins almost immediately with salary employment recruitment starting Jan. 11 and 12 during the 2011 North American International Auto Show industry preview days.
Mark Fields, Ford president of The Americas, announced during the Detroit Auto Show media preview that Ford is adding nearly 4,000 hourly jobs at several of its U.S. plants, including 1,800 at Louisville Assembly Plant, which is preparing to launch the next-generation Ford Escape late in the year. Ford also will add 750 salaried engineering jobs in product development and manufacturing. Next year, Ford expects to add at least 2,500 more new manufacturing positions.
The previously announced electrification project is driving a lot of the new hiring and employment. Ford is recruiting salaried engineers for jobs specializing in batteries, system controls, software and energy storage to work on electric vehicles in Detroit and eight other cities including Boston; Chicago; Cincinnati; Columbus, Ohio; Milwaukee; Raleigh and Durham, N.C.; and San Jose, Calif.
The Detroit Free Press is reporting that of the hiring, about 1,000 jobs will be to build the Ford Explorer at the company’s Chicago assembly plant. Ford also will add about 750 salaried jobs, mostly in Michigan.
