Pirelli Pumps Up U.S. Factory in Georgia

Pirelli Tire North America has announced a major investment in its manufacturing facility in Rome, Georgia. Alabama and Georgia are quickly becoming major manufacturing hubs with Kia, Honda and Hyundai plants located there. The $12 million investment announced by Pirelli is going towards a compound mixing facility at the Rome, Georgia facility that has received from more than $92 million in investments since its inception in 2001.

Pirelli Is on a Roll in U.S.

Pirelli announced that the investment is part of its strategic growth plan for the North American market and to help PTNA sustain its market gains and the 30 percent sales increase realized over the past three years.

Pirelli Tire North America designs, develops, manufactures and markets tires for passenger vehicles in both the original equipment and replacement markets as well as markets and distributes tires for motorcycles and motor sports. Its Modular Integrated Robotized System (MIRS) in Georgia employs state-of-the-art technology to manufacture tires for both export and domestic markets.

Pirelli has just completed its three-year tenure as the official tire supplier to the FIA World Rally Championship. Pirelli was awarded the exclusive agreement in 2008 and since then it has supplied a total of 27,995 tires for use on 40 WRC events on snow, ice, asphalt and gravel. Of those 27,995 tires, only 43 suffered failures on the punishing terrain encountered on world championship rallies during almost 9000 miles of special stages . In 2011, Pirelli begins its three-year agreement as the official tire supplier to the FIA Formula One World.
