The 2013 Fusion has received a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS, including on the moderate overlap frontal impact test.
The 2013 Ford Fusion mid-sized sedan has just been named a Top Safety Pick Award winner from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) by receiving a Good rating on an offset frontal impact, side impact, side impact dynamic head restraint and roof strength test.
The 2013 Fusion is vying to be the mid-sized sedan of choice for both the everyday driver, the eco-conscious driver, and those who prefer Ford's new Alfa-inspired styling and sleek new look. Both the 37 MPG EcoBoost and 47 MPG Hybrid 2013 Ford Fusion options will also have Auto Start-Stop and other innovative fuel savings measures.
Ford credits its forward-thinking safety technology for the 2013 Fusion's performance at IIHS. Its new Personal Safety System includes new seatbelt technologies, eight standard airbags on every Fusion, and a newly-designed seat-mounted side airbag system to deploy lower in the pelvis and chest areas with sensors to take into account the size of the occupant.
Driver-assist technologies also help the 2013 Ford Fusion hold its Top Safety Pick Award over from its previous generation.
Competition in the segment includes the Top Safety Pick Award winning 2013 Chevrolet Malibu and the as-yet-unrated 2013 Nissan Altima and 2013 Honda Accord, both model series with a past history of high safety ratings.
So far, none of these vehicles have been tested using the new small overlap front test, which stirred the industry when it began showing potential hazards in luxury vehicles as the IIHS gave trial runs to the new test.
