It was only a matter of time before Nissan's premium brand, known for its competition in Formula One as well as its luxury vehicles, would create it's own version of the GT-R supercar. Now we have it in the Q50 Eau Rouge.

When Infiniti unveiled the Q50 Eau Rouge Concept in Detroit (read it here), it was clearly meant to the be premium brand's top-level sports car offering. They did not, however, include engine specifications, leading most to believe that it would just be a souped up Q50 with a few extra horses and a beautiful new design.

Well, we were all wrong. It turns out, Infiniti is more interested in actual supercar power. To the tune of 560 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. That's roughly halfway between the low-end of the new 2015 Nissan GT-R's performance and its top-end NISMO offering. Wow.

The engine is almost identical to the 3.8-liter V6 powering the GT-R. Infiniti has done some tuning, but the basis is already there and didn't need much improvement anyway.

“A car with such pronounced styling treatments demands the very best in terms of high-performance powertrains, which is why we installed this V6 twin-turbocharged, 7-speed combination as an example of what a potential powertrain for the Q50 Eau Rouge may look and sound like,” said Johan de Nysschen, president of Infiniti Motor Company Limited.

The engine is the 3799cc, 24-valve, twin-turbocharged V6 from the GT-R with some slight modifications for higher output and partnered with the 50/50 front-rear all-wheel drive torque split that Infiniti says will give the new Q50 Eau Rouge a 0-60 mph time of under four seconds. Top speed will be around 180 miles per hour. This puts the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge into the big leagues of sports sedans.
