The Automotive Researchers' and Journalists' Conference of Japan has awarded the "steer by wire" steering in the Infiniti Q50 with its Technology of the Year Award 2014-2015, giving it its third such accolade since its entering production this year.
Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS) is the unique steer-by-wire system introduced this year in the Infiniti Q50 sedan. It removes the steering shaft from the column and allows the steering wheel to communicate directly with the steering rack via electronic impulse rather than physical movement. Safety redundancies keep the system operational should anything fail and the result is the most responsive steering capability and most adaptive steering system available today.
This DAS system has been awarded by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada as Best Technology Innovation 2014 and by the Popular Science Grand Award for Best of What's New. Now it's received it's latest accolade, the Technology of the Year Award 2014-2015 by the non-profit Automotive Researchers' and Journalists' Conference of Japan (RJC).
“Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS) is a world’s first in next-generation steering technology," said the RJC selection committee. "..we recognize this technology is an important step forward for the future of autonomous driving," they added.
This is just another award on the shelf for the Q50, which has won several awards on many fronts this year. It was named "Best Luxury Sports Sedan 2014" by Autosho TV Mexico most recently.
