The 2014 World Car Awards will be announced at the upcoming New York International Auto Show on April 17. Several awards are given, including the coveted World Car Award, the short-list of finalists for which includes the Infiniti Q50.
For the first time in its history, the Infiniti Q50 has been named a finalist in the World Car of the Year (WCOTY). The finalists include a list of some of the best cars available today as we near the last stage of the voting process for this coveted award.
The WCOTY and other awards in the series are announced at the New York International Auto Show (NAIAS) and include the 2014 World Car of the Year, World Luxury Car, World Performance Car, World Green Car, and World Car Design of the Year. The program stays in New York until 2018 thanks to an agreement between World Car Awards and sponsorship by Bridgestone.
Three finalists in each category will be announced at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland on March 4. The current list was honed by a jury of 69 international automotive journalists by secret ballot. Ballots were tabulated by KPMG, an international accounting firm. Multiple ties left the results with a list of twelve finalists. Those include:
- Audi A3
- BMW 4 Series
- BMW i3
- Cadillac CTS
- Citroen C4 Picasso
- Ford Fusion / Mondeo
- Infiniti Q50
- Jeep Cherokee
- Lexus IS
- Mazda3
- Peugeot 308
- Skoda Octavia
The Nissan family is no stranger to the WCOTY, of course. The Nissan LEAF won after its introduction in 2011 and the Nissan GT-R won World Performance Car in 2009.
As for the Q50 on this year's list, it has already won several awards globally, including Top Safety Pick Plus from the IIHS, inclusion on the Popular Science Best of What's New List for its Direct Adaptive Steering, and more.
