A live audience vote at Telematics Detroit gave NissanConnect with Mobile Apps the win over eight other finalists in the 2013/2014 Industry Newcomer Award win. We can see why.

Over 2,000 attendees at this year's Telematics Detroit Conference, a business-focused conference and exhibition for the telematics industry with a special focus on automotive infotainment, saw the NissanConnect with Mobile Apps system in action in a new Nissan Rogue. Live voting pitted eight finalists from various automakers and industry suppliers against one another with the Nissan system coming out on top as a crowd favorite.

It wasn't just a favorite, though, it dominated, winning over 24 percent of the votes, outclassing all seven of the others in contention.

NissanConnect is the company's global connected services platform, which offers a variety of applications and services to help provide in-car innovation and safety options for drivers and passengers. It's meant to integrate with a connected lifestyle and is currently featured in today's Nissan Altima, Rogue, Sentra, NV200, Versa, and Versa Note. TorqueNews had the opportunity to give it a thorough test run in a week-long test drive of the 2014 Nissan Versa Note and found it to be an excellent extension of the already well-done infotainment system Nissan has been developing for years.

The NissanConnect system includes connectivity that makes hands-free calling truly hands-free, a hands-free text messaging assistant, and many third-party apps for music and other services streamed through the user's phone. The Navigation option also adds traffic and other monitoring systems to aid the nav process. Everything is tuned towards keeping the driver's eyes on the road while allowing a connected user experience.

Very nicely done, Nissan.
