The most popular green car in the world also has the highest safety rating.
The 2015 Prius is the world’s top-selling hybrid and has saved for gasoline than any other model including electric vehicles. Long the leader in fuel economy and cost of ownership for its class, the 2015 Toyota Prius now also comes with the industry’s highest possible safety rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+).
2015 Toyota Prius IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus
To qualify for the IIHS’ TSP+ rating a vehicle has to achieve not only good results on the most common crash tests, but must also earn an acceptable or better rating on the small frontal offset crash test. This test trips up many vehicles. The Toyota Prius. Toyota Prius Plug-In and Prius V all pass this test. However, that is not enough. A TSP+ rated vehicle must also now be available with either advanced or superior rated forward crash prevention.
The Toyota Prius, Prius Plug-In, and Prius V are available with this level of safety. No other top-selling hybrid model in the class is.
2016 Toyota Prius and Prius V
This may well be the last year of the generation for the Prius and Prius V. The line is now due for a redesign that could come as early as 2016. We speculate that the next Prius will achieve at least 55 MPG combined, and may actually touch 60 MPG.
