Only the 2015 Toyota Sienna offers the industry’s highest safety rating, the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus
For 2015 only one minivan in the US market achieves the highest possible safety rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick Plus (TSP+) designation. This is hard to believe given the fact that minivans are used almost exclusively as family vehicles. However, with the Honda Odyssey being downgraded one safety level for 2015 it is a fact.
IIHS Downgrades 2015 Honda Odyssey
Starting in 2015, IIHS has made earning a top safety rating more difficult. In addition to scoring well on all crash tests, and earning an Acceptable or higher rating in the difficult Small Frontal Offset crash test, a vehicle must now have either advanced or superior Forward Crash Prevention. The 2015 Toyota Sienna does offer this, and the Kia Sedona and Honda Odyssey do not. Thus, the Odyssey has been bumped back a notch in 2015 leaving only the Sienna to hold the highest rating.
2015 Toyota Sienna
The 2015 Toyota Sienna has been redesigned for 2015 with a new interior, new exterior look, and other important changes. Torque News’ managing editor, Patrick Rall recently tried the 2015 Sienna and found its interior is now Lexus-quiet. The Sienna also remains the only US-market minivan to offer all-wheel drive as an option.
