Mazda won every possible category. Here’s why.
Mazda can’t seem to lose in New York. As the New York International Auto Show gets underway, the New York Daily News came up with a brilliant idea. It pulled together a panel of nine “distinguished automotive writers.” and asked them to answer a simple question. Setting aside how they found any “distinguished” auto writers, the premise is very cool.
The New York Daily News simply asked these insiders, who all test cars for a living to, “Rank the vehicles in the order that you would recommend them to your family, members, friends and co-workers.” The New York Daily News questionnaire had sixteen categories. Mazda won every category it could, taking five.
The categories the Mazda vehicles won were:
•The 2016 Mazda MX-5 ∙ Fun Car Winner
•The 2016 Mazda3 ∙ Small Car Winner
•The 2016 Mazda6 ∙ Family Car Winner
•The 2016 Mazda CX-3 ∙ City SUV Winner
•The 2016 Mazda CX-5 ∙ Small SUV Winner
Daily News Autos Editor Nick Kurczewski explained the idea behind the awards, saying, “If you want to choose your car or truck based only on top speed times or the number of cup-holders, then look elsewhere. Our intent with these awards is to help consumers make a better choice for their next car purchase.” That is a philosophy we like to hear at Torque News.
