Lexus makes subtle, but important changes to a segment favorite.
The current generation Lexus IS sports sedan was Car and Driver and Road and Track’s winner in the sports sedan comparisons when it debuted. Messing with the formula that finally topped the BMW 3 Series is no small matter, and Lexus has taken a cautious approach as the model has matured in its generation. That said, for 2017 Lexus has made some improvements and changes to the interior of the IS sedan that buyers will want to note, particularly if they have owned an IS in the past.
Starting with the most obvious change, Lexus offering new interior colors. The list now includes; Black, Chateau, Flaxen, and Nuance Black. F SPORT package models have the choice of Black, Chateau and Rioja Red. Complimenting these color changes inside are new trim offerings. These include; Chateau, Nuance Black and Illustrious Piano Black trim (Base), Gray Sapele Wood (Luxury Package). The F SPORT trims get Silver Performance. The trim on all IS models features new stitching atop the gauge hood.
Lexus also tweaked the cupholder design, revised the climate-control panel, analog clock, and steering wheel switches. A newly styled speedometer and tachometer also debut for 2017. One other vehicle aspect a shopper should not inside is the now standard Lexus Safety System+, which includes Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist, Intelligent High Beam (IHB) and High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
