Mazda’s new Mazda3 for 2017 gets some important updates.
Mazda has announced changes to the new Mazda3 for 2017. It just hasn’t told us what they will all be. Piecing together details from images, press releases, and other information, Torque News predicts the 2017 changes are minor, but interesting nonetheless.
Mazda3 Suspension & Engine Changes
The biggest change to the 2017 Mazda3 is the addition of Mazda’s new G-Vectoring Control (GVC) technology. This innovation varies engine torque to optimize the vertical load on each wheel. Mazda says that the system will make drivers feel more connected to the Mazda3.
Mazda3 Style Changes
The 2017 Mazda3 will have slightly revised front and rear lighting. The new lights will mimic changes we have previously seen on other models. The intent is to keep the family resemblance. The image at the top of this story is of the 2017 U.S.-Spec Mazda3.
Mazda3 Content Changes
Expect additions to the standard content list for the mid-trim Touring models. Mazda may let more of the active safety systems now found only on the top Grand Touring trim trickle down to the lower trims as standard or optional in packages.
Mazda3 Price Changes
Most automakers are keeping MSRPs at 2016 levels. We would expect that Mazda will either keep prices the same, or add in content and raise prices slightly offering similar or better value to 2016 models.
Expect Mazda to release full details on the 2017 Mazda3 in August and for dealer inventory arrive early September or sooner.
The biggest complaint I keep
The biggest complaint I keep hearing about is NVH issues on the current Mazda 3 (2014-16). Hopefully Mazda addressed this with the refreshed 2017 model.
From the pics of the recently released 2017 Mazda Axela (Japanese version of the Mazda 3) it will be getting a new steering wheel, slightly revised front grill and rear bumper, and some new trim hardware inside. The middle console has been revised (at least on higher trims) with a sliding cupholder cover and parking brake switch replacing the parking brake handle. Also new cloth upholstery for the seats.
