The 2017 Lexus LC 500 will be Lexus Flagship Coupe.
Akio Toyoda unveiled the all-new 2017 Lexus LC 500 luxury performance coupe today at the Detriot Auto Show (NAIAS). Longer, wider and more luxurious than the 2016 Lexus RC F, this new vehicle will be the top of Lexus line until it introduces a new LS sedan or LFA supercar replacement. Unlike the LFA, the LC 500 will be a daily driver for its owners.
The 2017 LC 500 2+2 coupe will use a variant of the 5-liter V8 now found in the Lexus RC F and GS F. With about 467 HP, it will have more power than needed for any on-road grand touring trip. Lexus seems content to let Cadillac, BMW and Mercedes own the pretend-world of luxury cars that are really track cars in disguise. Cadillac’s car sales have dropped like a rock and Lexus’ are up, so if selling cars is the aim, this seems like a decent plan.
Saying that since four years ago, the changes made to the brand have created a “Brand New Lexus”, Akio Toyoda, President of Toyota, and Branding Officer and Master Driver for Lexus, started by saying that his aim is to ensure that Lexus and Boring are no longer used in the same sentence. He went further and said that the company no longer makes cars just to fill a category, but rather to fill people’s hearts (and driveways).
We wil do a deep-dive on the LC 500 when full specifications are released and report on its driving feel when we have tested the car.
