Fiat is clearly looking for volume with these prices.
Those U.S. fans of the Fiat 124 Spider who assumed that it would be sold as a premium version with higher prices in this market will be pleasantly surprised. Fiat’s newly released prices show that the brand is targeting the masses and is not going to tack on a premium by comparison to the Mazda Miata (on which the 124 Spider is based).
There will be three levels of pricing. The base model is called Classica, and it starts at just $24,995. The next step up is the $27,495Lusso. Finally, the top-spec version is the Abarth at $28,195. These are all MSRP numbers that don’t include delivery and dealer fees. A comparison to the Miata shows that both brands' cars start at the same price, but the Miata's higher trims are more expensive by about $1K.
The Fiat 124 Spider’s Classica and Lusso drivetrain includes Fiat’s proven 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo four-cylinder engine. Fiat points out that this is the engine’s first application in a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. Delivering 160 horsepower, and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, the base Fiat engine has about five hp more than the Miata’s. The 124 Spider Abarth has 165 hp and the same torque. Both are available with a six-speed manual transmission and also an automatic. Expect the rare automatics to have a $1,000 price premium.

Fiat is also planning a special edition. Just 124 units of the Prima Edizione Lusso will be built. Each will have a commemorative badge, be painted Azzurro Italia (Blue), and have premium Saddle leather seats. These will be priced at $35,000.
