Mazda finally reveals the all-new MX-5 Miata's forth generation roadster. Here are the pictures and video.
Today Mazda revealed the all-new 2016 MX-5 Miata. Duran Duran provided a rocking musical backdrop to the event which was held in California, Spain, and Tokyo. The event was also simulcast on Mazda’s Youtube page. Mazda said very little about the mechanicals of the car and did not reveal its engine technology. That information will likely be released slowly over the coming weeks.
2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Details
This new 4rth generation Miata combines the great looks of the second-generation with the more practical safety features of the outgoing model. The car is now lower and wider than the third-generation car it will replace. However, overall, the car has a very similar look to the Miatas of the past two generations.
One major discovery I made watching the reveal was that there is a navigation screen shown on the dash. It is of the style of the Mazda3, and if it uses the same wonderful controls, Miata fans should jump for joy. Hopefully, the audio system is also upgraded. The Bose system in the current generation cannot compete with the wind noise when the top is down - and it's always down.

The front is much more visually satisfying. Mazda had trouble with the front of the third-generation, changing it three times. This car looks to have a winning front end from the start. The rear lights are sharper and more modern than the current car.
The car shown was a soft-top. No word yet on whether there will be a power retractable hardtop in the new generation, but we hope so. The rollover hoops behind the seat-rests stay and look sharp with their piano-black finish. The wheels are lightweight alloys in black. The Miata always looks good in reds with black accents.
When Can I Get This New Miata?
This fourth generation Miata will go into production after the coming 2015 model year which is just beginning. That means that the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata is about 14 months from being on dealer lots. There is the possibility that Mazda could move that timeline by about two months in or out.
What About The 2015 Miata?
The 2015 Model year Mazda MX-5 is a fantastic roadster. It is one of the best convertibles at any price point, and has the best power retractable hard-top roof of any vehicle in the world. Sales are slow right now for the Miata. Less than 400 were sold in July. With the new model now out there for fans to lust after, this may be an ideal time to try to strike a deal.
Torque News will bring you more information and more and better images as they become available.
