Tesla meets its match? Lectron undercuts Tesla's CCS adapter pricing in latest move after Tesla drops its own price. Who will come out on top in the race to dominate EV charging infrastructure?

In response to competition from Lectron, Tesla recently dropped the price of its CCS charging adapter to a lower level. Two can play at that game. Lectron has now reduced the price of its Tesla CCS adapter to just $159.99.

Lectron is a manufacturer of high-quality, affordable EV chargers and charging equipment. Torque News content creators have used the company's products to help us test EVs for years. Back in October, we posted up a story with the prices for both the Tesla-branded charger available directly from Tesla and also the Lectron CCS adapter. At that time, Lectron was offering its charger for about $51 less in cost.

Tesla must have taken note of this because the company dropped the price of its own CCS adapter. And then Lectron dropped its as well. As it stands at the time of this story’s publication, Lectron’s charger is priced at $159.99 and Tesla’s higher price is now $175.

Lectron also makes getting your charger easier. After you place an order, the company says it will ship your adapter within two working days. By contrast, Tesla says on its webpage, “Note: CCS Combo 1 Adapter will begin shipping within two weeks of order placement. For vehicles requiring a retrofit, please check back in early 2023 for availability.”

So the Lectron product is less expensive, and you get it much faster. If you are an Amazon fan, you can also order a Lectron charger there. At the time this story was published, the Amazon price was $169.99, and it was in stock with a two-day delivery promise to our area.

The reason this adapter is necessary is that Tesla opted not to use the same charger connection that every other manufacturer adopted. Think Apple. You have an adapter that can charge a lot of things, but then you have the hassle of needing a special one just for one product. Using the adapter allows a Tesla owner to charge at public chagrin stations nationwide.

You can find the specifications for each product on the product page links. If you purchase a charger adapter, please let us know about your experience in our comments section below.
