Mazda has just recalled the Mazda3, MazdaSpeed3 and Mazda2. Check here to see if you need to bring your car in.
Mazda announced today that its most popular car series has been recalled. No, it won't catch on fire, blow up, or suffer serious steering or brake loss, but Mazda is a safety-conscious company and wants you to have an operable seat. Yes, seat recalls are boring, but how would you like to grab that seat raise or lower handle one day and have it snap off in your hand? You would not like that, so pay attention!
Mazda says that the following models are covered by this recall:
MY 2010-2011 Mazda3 (Produced October 2008 through September 2010)
MY 2010-2011 Mazdaspeed3 (Produced May 2009 through September 2010)
MY 2011 Mazda2 (Produced May 2010 through September 2010)
Mazda says that only models equipped with a manual seat lifter are affected. The company says that almost 200,000 vehicles are included in the recall, though, so it is likely yours may be among them. Mazda says the problem is: "On the driver seat, due to insufficient strength of the seat height adjustment lifter link, or incorrect attachment method of the lifter link push nuts, the lifter link may become cracked or the lifter link push nuts may become separated."
Mazda will alert owners by snail mail, but since this is a used car for many folks, why chance it? You can simply click this link and it will take you directly to the Mazda recall lookup.
