Mazda has now won the ALG residual value award back to back for its popular Mazda3. Its success is no accident.
Quick quiz; If your car won the ALG residual value award last year, what would be the easiest way to win it again? How about keep the price the same while all your rivals raised theirs. Genius! Mazda has now won the award multiple times with the Mazda3, and even the 2010 MazdaSpeed3, now discontinued, won its sporty compact category. The Mazda3 is just a winner.
How Did Mazda3 Win This Award?
The trick Mazda used was not rocket science as Larry Dominique, President of ALG explained, saying "Mazda kept the 2015 pricing flat on the Mazda3, allowing it to remain one of the best values in the Compact segment, and earn its second straight Residual Value Award. Not only that, but the Mazda3 is one of the best all-around vehicles in the Compact segment." So be the best, keep your prices low, and success will follow. Why can’t other automakers follow this simple formula?
What is the ALG Residual Value Award?
ALG rates cars based on a variety of factors. Included in the analysis are vehicle quality, production volume, and overall price and value. ALG looks for cars that perform well in the category over time as well, which helped the Mazda3. This car is no flash in the pan. Pointing this out, Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) said that "It is a true testament of the quality, dependability, reliability and value of the Mazda3, which has only made this segment leader stronger and customers have spoken by making it the best-selling Mazda vehicle."
What Makes the Mazda3 Special?
The Mazda3 blends value, safety, and sportiness into one value-priced car competing in a very tough segment. We reviewed the Mazda3. We found that it does not really compete with its class, but rather, it steps up to the premium class, one price level above. It equals, or beats cars like the Audi A3. Although front wheel drive, the Mazda3 is a great driver’s car. Unlike many of its rivals, the 2015 Mazda3 is now available with both its most powerful engine and also a six-speed manual transmission.
