Consumer Reports is the most trusted name in vehicle reliability. Its new list of the top ten cars for reliability has only one sports car. Of course, it's the Mazda Miata.

Ask any Mazda Miata owner why they love their car and after they express to you the pure joy of driving it, that owner will quickly also mention "And it never breaks." This makes the Miata an outlier in the world of sports cars. Many of which have spooky reliability records. The fact is, most performance cars are made to be super light and the primary focus is on absolute performance. The Miata is also made super light and has un-rivaled performance, but it just never breaks.

Don't take our word for it, Consumer Reports has compiled a list of the 10 Most Reliable Cars. Remember, CR's rankings are not opinions of its staff. Its rankings come straight from owner surveys. It's the legions of Mazda Miata owners who are telling you they are reliable, not a handful of hard-working writers in the woods of Connecticut.

The Miata's ownership experience is also great for other reasons. As Consumer Reports points out, "The Miata quickly scoots along while returning a miserly 34 mpg overall." For the 2019 model year, the Miata also gets a substantial power boost one can immediately feel and enjoy on a quick drive. That added power comes with higher fuel economy. How Mazda's engineers work their magic is sometimes astounding.

The best news for fans of the Mazda Miata is that it isn't just the 2019 model that has top scores for predicted reliability. CR has reported the current generation Miata earns a 5/5 (the best score) for reliability based on actual results for every year data is available (2016 and 2017). In fact, the Miata has an unbroken 5/5 reliability score all the way back to 2010. Consumer Reports feeds its families based on subscriptions, so if you want more details on the Miata's long-term reliability please subscribe.

Biase Alert! - Your author owned a 2007 Mazda Miata Grand Touring. His reporting may be influenced by the fact that during his ownership his personal Miata never broke.

"A" your adorable, or is it affordable? The MX5 Miata is a reward to those who understand value and fun. With CO2 affecting the warmth of the oceans, we need to downsize our homes and our cars. There is no guilt in driving a Miata, the quintessential light weight sports car.
