Toyota says it will bring back the Supra. Details are slim, but here is what we know.
Toyota dropped a teaser image of the Supra concept car today. Out of the blue, Toyota made a very short, simple statement titled, "The Legend Returns," saying, "At the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, a modern racing concept signals Toyota’s commitment to bring back to the market its most iconic sports car."
Toyota's most iconic sports car was the Supra, introduced in 1978 and then discontinued in 2002 after it had become a near-supercar by the days' standards. Toyota has been rumored to be working on a new sports car in conjunction with BMW, something this publication has been unsure of. Why Toyota would need BMW for a sports car defies logic.
Toyota introduced an FT-1 Concept in 2014. Shortly after, Toyota revived its trademark on the name. Nearly a year later Toyota showed off some stunning images of the FT-1 concept car in a graphite color. Now, Toyota seems to be indicating that the Toyota will return as a concept car, at least.
We will bring you more news as it develops. We hope this is a true Supra concept to be followed by a Supra production car, but we have been waiting sixteen years. Guarded optimism would be the best way to describe our feelings about this new announcement.
