On Saturday it was Chris Atkinson’s #55 Subaru WRX STI getting a P3 finish in the Final. On Sunday, it was Patrik Sandell’s time to shine.

On Sunday, it was the #18 Subaru WRX STI that took another podium finish at the double-header round 11 at Red Bull Global Rallycross Seattle. Patrik Sandell started things on Sunday with a quick qualifying session that put the Swede in pole position. Sandell took third place and another podium finish for Subaru Rally Team USA. Teammate Chris Atkinson in the #55 STI Supercar was right behind in 4th.

It was Tanner Foust winning again and sweeping the double-header weekend. Subaru is definitely making progress against the dominant Volkswagen Beetle Andretti team. Sandell finished 2nd in both heat rounds and won the Semi-Final. The successful weekend with two podium finishes marks the third for the team in the past four races.

Subaru Motorsports noted Patrik Sandell described his race as follows: “Had a really clean start in the final. We were able to manage the first few corners very well, which was my biggest worry this weekend because it’s such a rough first few turns and people are a bit crazy there. After that things really settled down and I was able to put down some good laps. We had a really good joker strategy that race and I just tried to bring it home. That was a good one, thank you Subaru!”

There’s one more round to finish out the 2017 Red Bull Global Rallycross season. Subaru says, “The 2017 Subaru WRX STI is determined to stick around the podiums for a while!” The final Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship event takes place in Los Angeles Oct 13-14. Can Subaru get a win? Stay tuned.
