The all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI will be launching in the first quarter in Australia. It’s roots run deep in the country down under.
When Subaru launches the all-new-generation 2015 WRX STI in Australia, the car may be new, but the car won’t be new to the country down under. The Subaru WRX STI has a rich racing history in the World Rally Championship (WRC). The Subaru WRX STI has deep roots in the WRC as it’s been the perfect testing ground for the performance car. Rally racing is one of the most demanding motorsports on the planet and Subaru has developed the WRX STI on the most challenging rally courses in the world.
The reason the 2015 Subaru WRX STI is what it is, a well designed performance enthusiasts drivers car, will be in part because of what has happened in Australia over the last two decades. Rallying is a brutally tough motorsport and cars are pushed to their extreme limits. The WRC race courses feature uncompromising terrain, wildly fluctuating conditions, and constant demands on the cars.
It’s truly one of the most challenging sports in the world and this is where the WRX STI cars were developed for production. Subaru teams have learned what it takes and the 2015 WRX STI was born here. It’s been a perfect testing ground for Team Subaru Australia. They have been part of the World Rally Championship for 22 years, and while they were fine-tuning the unique technologies that went into the WRX STI, they were also winning championships.
There has never been another era in Australian motorsport like it. Team Subaru won 10 straight Driver’s Championships and eight Manufacturers’ titles, with the last six in succession. They won the World Rally Championship Manufacturers’ title three times, and the driver’s title three times as well.
Team Subaru began in 1992, and that same year Rob Herridge won the Australian Championship. This first foray into the world of rallying was to end in 1993. But it wasn’t long before Subaru would be back. In 1996, Subaru Rally Team Australia was born. Possum Bourne was the driving force of the team, and his incredible run of seven straight driver’s titles commenced. This racing pedigree has helped produce the best WRX STI yet.
Subaru Managing Director, Nick Senior, said: “2013 was an outstanding year for Subaru, with the addition of new generation Forester to the range, plus introduction of our first diesel automatic, in Outback, which has brought an even wider audience to this incredibly frugal SUV range. With new generation 2015 WRX and WRX STI due in the first third of the year, we’re looking forward to maintaining our momentum in 2014.”
Subaru will launch the 2015 WRX STI in the first quarter of this year as it makes its way to the Australian continent where it has a rich history. WRX STI fans are looking forward to the new-generation 2015 WRX STI unveiling at NAIAS. After 22 years, the performance car is more popular than ever in Australia. Subaru owes a lot to Australia for what they've done for the WRX STI production car.
