The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is starting to pick up global awards. See why it wins Crossover Of The Year 2021 from 4X4 Magazine.
The newly-refreshed 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is a hot model and just had its best December ever. Now, the compact SUV is starting to pick up global awards as Subaru U.K. announced, the Crosstrek (XV in markets outside the U.S.) compact SUV wins the Crossover Of The Year 2021 Award from 4X4 Magazine. Crosstrek wins for the second time, also scoring the award in 2019.
4X4 Magazine gives three reasons for the Crosstrek’s win. They cite its safety technologies, superior on-road handling, and impressive off-road skills thanks to its standard Symmetrical all-wheel drive.
Judges said Crosstrek is “Perfect for outdoor sports and hobbies, weekends away, or even just the school run. And with the maximum 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, you will offer the very best protection for you and your family wherever you go.”
Subaru upgraded the 2021 Crosstrek’s off-road capabilities by bringing a new Sport trim with dual-function X-Mode. The Limited top trim also gets the off-pavement technology. Both models come with a new 2.5-liter Boxer engine with 30 more horsepower.
Deep Snow/Mud Mode
Dual-function X-Mode brings Crosstrek a deep snow mode for the first time. If you travel over a high mountain pass for snowboarding at a local ski resort, you can encounter blizzard conditions and heavy, wet, deep snow. This setting will get you to your destination safely.
How does Crosstrek’s dual-function X-Mode work? In slick conditions, you need wheel spin to help in a potentially dangerous situation. When faced with deep snow conditions, selecting this setting allows some wheel spin, when required, to prevent the vehicle from becoming stuck.
A knob on Crosstrek’s console controls Dual-Function X-MODE, allowing you to switch from Snow and Dirt mode to the new Deep Snow and Deep Mud Mode. This mode enables the compact SUV to maintain momentum when you get off the beaten path in more extreme deep snow and mud situations.
The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek also comes with 8.7-inches of ground clearance, allowing the compact SUV to easily power through deep snow. It’s one reason why Crosstrek wins the Crossover Of The Year 2021 Award again.

The AWD, ground clearance and styling is excellent. But the build quality is alarmingly poor compared to older Subarus I’ve owned. I have a 2019 and after one year of ownership I’ve had body trim pieces come loose, cheap paint(clean up bird crap within the hour or it’ll eat right through it!) and the RATTLES! The dash rattles below the radio. The A pillars rattle. The plastic cowls around the windshield will come loose and rattle. Get your tape, foam and silicone ready!!!
PS: Turning up the radio doesn’t work, because then the rear view mirror rattles too.

Have you actually driven an older Subaru? Sounds right on par to me.
