Which are the best vehicles to take on a road trip? The 2021 Subaru Ascent 3-Row family hauler is one of the five best SUVs for 2021.
Because of COVID, more families are buying new SUVs and heading out for long trips to escape the city. Which SUVs make the best road trip vehicles? Consumer Reports tests hundreds of cars and SUVs and came up with the best road cars for 2021.
The new report says the 2021 Subaru Ascent is one of the 5-Best road trip SUVs you can buy right now. What makes it one of the best? It’s about a vehicle offering front and rear seat comfort, cargo space, fuel economy, ride quality, a quiet cabin, and the top safety scores. CR says the Ascent 3-Row family hauler checks all the right boxes and is a “road-trip warrior.”
The 2021 Subaru Ascent scores 93 points in CR’s road test scores. The Ascent scores 5/5 in ride quality, 4/5 for cabin noise, 4/5 in front-seat comfort, and 5/5 in rear-seat comfort.
The 5 SUVs, according to Consumer Reports, with the best road test scores are the BMW X5, Kia Telluride, Chevrolet Traverse, BMW X7, and Subaru Ascent.
What is the Ascent fuel mileage?
The Ascent 2.4-liter turbocharged engine gets an EPA estimated 21/27 city/highway and 23 combined mpg. The SUV runs on regular unleaded fuel, so you don’t need the higher grade premium fuel, and the Ascent will travel 501 miles on a tank of fuel.
What is the price of the 2021 Subaru Ascent?
The 2021 Subaru Ascent comes in four trim levels. Base has a starting MSRP of $32,295, Premium ($34,795), Limited ($39,595), and Touring ($45,445) trims. Prices do not include a $1,010 destination and delivery fees.
The Subaru Ascent is in its third year of production and gets six new safety updates over the 2020 model. The family hauler now comes with advanced adaptive cruise control with lane-centering and lane keep assist.
All Ascent trim levels now come equipped with steering responsive LED headlights with high beam assist for improved nighttime visibility. The other new safety feature is the second-and third-row seat belt reminder. It gives an audible and visual warning if the seatbelt has not been fastened as the vehicle accelerates from a stop.
Consumer Reports didn’t say a vehicle should also come with all-wheel-drive if you feel like exploring off-pavement. All 2021 Subaru Ascent trim levels offer it as standard equipment.
The 2021 Subaru Ascent scores one of the five highest in CR’s road tests. This spring, families looking for a 3-Row SUV for long road trips should put the 3-Row SUV on their shopping list.
