The 2020 Honda Civic has arrived at the dealer showrooms with a few upgrades. Here are five things car shoppers should know before you buy one.

American Honda has announced pricing for the 2020 Civic Sedan and Coupe with a few upgrades. There are not a lot of changes for the 2020 model change so the first thing to know is you can probably get a better deal on a 2019 Civic and you will still get a great compact car. If you can find the model and color you want, negotiate with the dealer and you can get a better deal on the outgoing model.

The 2020 Honda Civic with the 6-speed manual gearbox starts at $20,680 for a base LX sedan, $200 more than model-year 2019 prices. LX Civic coupes with the CVT automatic start at $21,880, also $200 more than the outgoing coupe.

The new Sport model was introduced for 2019 offers of a sport-themed cosmetic package, also sees a price hike. For 2020, the Civic sedan Sport with a 6-speed manual gearbox starts at $22,380, $200 more than 2019 model-year. All coupe models get the same price increase (all prices include $930 destination charge).

If you opt for the less expensive 6-speed manual models, they are not as fuel-efficient. 6-speed manual Civic Coupe Sport trim models come in at an EPA 25/35/29 estimated city/highway/combined mpg and CVT automatic models get an EPA estimated 29/36/32 city/highway/combined mpg. Unless you really want to shift yourself, the $800 can be made up fairly quickly with the improved mileage of the CVT. Test drive both and decide for yourself.

Honda Sensing is standard

All 2020 Honda Civic compact models now come standard with Honda Sensing suite of driver-assist technology. If you want the safer car buy a 2020 model. The system includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control. They also now come with automatic high beams as standard across the lineup.

If you want the popular Honda Civic Si trim they see the biggest price bump for the 2020 model change. The 2019 Civic Si started at $25,230; and the 2020 Si jumps to $25,930, a $700 bump. If you want the styling upgrades without the price of the Si, you can get the Civic Sport with red gauges, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, paddle shifters on CVT-equipped models, textured aluminum sport pedals and Sport-specific seat materials with a combination of synthetic leather and cloth.

The 2020 Honda Civic Sedan and Coupe LX and Sport trims are powered by a 2.0-liter engine producing 158 horsepower and 138 lb.-ft. of torque. All Civic EX, EX-L, and Touring trims are powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 174 horsepower and 167 lb.-ft. of torque.

The best value for car shoppers is the 2020 Honda Civic Sport models that offer a good balance of styling, performance, and fuel-efficiency.

#6- You might get oil-gas dilution with the 1.5T engine. While not as pervasive as on the CR-V, it still shares a majority of parts, and there have been reports of this engine having this issue.
