Should you buy a new 2021 Subaru Outback, or is a used model a better choice? Check out resale values before you buy.
If you are looking to buy a used Subaru Outback and save money, it may not be your best option. Even though the new Best Used Cars for 2021 from iSeeCars says the Subaru Outback is a superior choice because of its safety and reliability, resale values are the highest compared with most other models.
Kelley Blue Book's latest Best Resale Value awards give the highest resale value honor to the 2021 Subaru Outback. The Outback has secured multiple segment wins in Kelley Blue Book's Best Resale Value Awards 18-year history, and the Outback has now earned its fifth win in the 2-Row Midsize SUV segment.
What does it mean for used SUV shoppers?
The annual Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards honor the vehicles expected to retain the highest percentage of their original price after five years of ownership.
According to KBB, the 2021 Subaru Outback resale value of the original sticker price at 60 months is 43.4 percent. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the second-place finisher with a 38.3 percent after 60 months. The Hyundai Santa Fe comes in third with a resale value of 36.6 percent at 60 months.

As with the previous model year, the 2021 Subaru Outback "Is the best in its class for retaining its value," according to KBB. They say, "You can be confident in its ability to retain its value well over the years."
If you consider buying a two or three-year-old Subaru Outback, it may be better to buy a new 2021 model. If you've tried to purchase a previously owned Outback, you know this is true. The value of a used Outback is just a few thousand dollars less than a new one.
Prices are high for previously owned Outback models, especially if you live in the Northeast, Rocky Mountains, or Pacific Northwest, where all-weather capability is essential. Subaru Outback's standard all-wheel-drive, versatility, and utility is what's keeping the vehicle's value exceptionally high when it comes time to sell.
What is the price of the 2021 Subaru Outback?
The 2021 Outback comes in seven trim levels. Base models start at $27,845, Premium ($30,095), Limited ($34,645), Onyx Edition XT ($36,195), Touring ($38,545), Limited XT ($39,045), and Touring XT ($40,995). Pricing includes $1,050 destination.
The Subaru Outback just picked up another award. The newly-remodeled sixth-generation Subaru Outback received Vincentric's 2021 Best Value in America award. The 2021 Subaru Outback wins in the Midsize SUV/Crossover category. The Award says the Outback is now the lowest cost to own.
It may be better for used SUV shoppers to buy a 2021 Subaru Outback than look for a used model. The Outback is a popular model, and a clean, low mileage vehicle will bring top dollar.
