The new BMW M2 beats much more expensive sports cars to take home the “Best New Premium Sports / Performance Car” award. Which sports cars does it beat?
The new BMW M2 wins another award and scores the “Best New Premium Sports/Performance Car” in the Canadian AJAC awards. BMW M GmbH just picked up Car and Driver’s 10Best winner with M2 Coupe last week. The new M2 went against the much more expensive competition of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S and Mercedes AMG C63 S Coupe now, and wins the coveted award in the Canadian AJAC awards announced yesterday.
The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) put the three sports cars through four intensive days of road tests. The winning vehicles, in eight categories, were selected by 90 Canadian automotive journalists who gathered in October at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) of Clarington in Ontario for the testing. All cars were driven on different routes, highways, performance circuit, road circuit and all-terrain route, to simulate the range of conditions that are also experienced by consumers.
AJAC relies on dozens of factors assessed, like noise levels in the utility space, fuel economy, and acceleration measurements are considered and weighted. The vehicle tests in each category are conducted consecutively on the same day and under the same conditions.
BMW M2 scores big in key areas
The new M2 scored big in the interior area to win the category. The new Coupe scored highest in the cargo area, and overall interior space. It also scored highest in the subjective value of the automotive journalists. It’s not surprising because the M2 is an emotional car. The much less expensive M2 ($67,795) gets a total score of 658 narrowly beating the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S ($150,636) with a score of 656. The Mercedes AMG C63 S Coupe ($96,420) comes in third with a score of 648.
The new BMW M2 wins “Best New Premium Sports/Performance Car”, competing against the much more expensive Porsche 911 Carrera 4S and Mercedes AMG C63 S Coupe. BMW has a winner and you don’t have to spend a lot to get a sports car that provides impressive performance.
