European Auto Source says they swapped the I6 turbo in the new BMW M4 for a S65 V8 powerplant. Or did they?
California-based tuner, European Auto Source (EAS), is known for their expertise in engine swaps, and on April 1, they told fans they swapped the new turbo 6 cylinder for a naturally aspirated S65 V8 in the new BMW M4. Actually it was a joke that EAS pulled on their fans and it was without a doubt the best April Fools joke.
EAS faked the engine swap by Photoshop-ping the installation of the S65 4.0 liter V8 engine which “replaced” the 3.0 liter inline-six powerplant. The prank was taken seriously by some, and many got the joke instantly. EAS even went so far to produce a video of the new M4 swap with the V8 seen putting out a sweet exhaust note. Here’s what EAS told their readers on April 1. “When BMW introduced the new F8X M3 & M4, the world witnessed the demise of the naturally aspirated M car. While the S55 I6 twin turbo motor puts down substantially more power and torque than any of its M3 predecessors, there are still some purists who long for the iconic sound and linear power delivery of the high-revving S65 V8. This track-going customer is one of those purists. When we were asked if we could make an S65 M4 happen, we jumped at the opportunity. It wasn't the easiest engine swap we've performed, but we were able to complete the job just in time for April Fools Day.”

EAS said they also gave the new M4 a Akrapovic Evolution Titanium Exhaust system, BMW Gloss Black Kidney Grille Surrounds, BMW M performance carbon fiber trunk spoiler, iND painted side markers, JRZ RS Pro Coilover system and the BMW S65 V8 engine. Of course all of it was a joke. You can see the full gallery of the EAS BMW M4 “engine swap” photos here.
