BMW reveals the M4 MotoGP Safety Car that will be the “Official Car of MotoGP” in 2015. BMW says it will feature new water injection?
BMW is bringing a new wild-looking M4 MotoGP Safety Car to MotoGP and the performance car will come with an even wilder new water injection system under the hood. The M4 Safety Car will be the “Official Car of MotoGP” in 2015. BMW is pushing the limits of engine technology and says the new M4 MotoGP Safety Car will get this new technology that its been testing.
This kind of water injection for turbocharged/supercharged engine technology isn’t new, as its been around for decades. Instead of injecting a mixture of fuel into the combustion chamber, it injects water into the combustion chamber, something that wouldn't usually be recommended because so many things can go south. If the mixture of water is too low or too high, it won’t work and the engine is ruined.

BMW says they now have the technology and software needed to make it work and it will become reality in future production BMWs. It resides under the hood of the matte black wrapped M4 MotoGP Safety Car with BMW's iconic striped livery, upgraded aero kit, retrofitted interior and all the emergency equipment. The system is designed to cool the mixture of fuel and air that become extremely hot inside the engine environment. The system injects a fine mist of water into the collector in order to reduce the air's temperature to a more optimal temperature, helping the combustion process. BMW says there a number of benefits that include reducing the need for higher octane fuels, controlling the adverse effects of higher ambient temperatures and most importantly, it increases power output and reduces fuel consumption by around eight percent.
BMW will be using this technology in the BMW M4 MotoGP Safety Car for the 2015 season for the first time. BMW M Division will begin production of a model featuring water injection in the near future. Stay tuned.
