BMW M GmbH will replace the existing Competition Package for the 2015 BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Gran Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible with an upgraded version. How fast is the new M6?
For those who want to push the extreme limits of the new 2015 BMW M6, BMW M GmbH has developed a new competition package with improved performance and driving dynamics. It will be available this summer for performance enthusiasts for the 2016 BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Gran Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible.
What’s new for 2015?
The new 2015 M6 Competition Package has been developed with extreme performance in mind and comes with enhanced driving dynamics. Under the hood, the M6’s 4.4-liter V8 gasoline engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology get a power boost. The new comp package will increase power by 40 hp over the standard unit, to 600 hp. Peak torque also rises, from 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) in standard tune to 700 Nm (516 lb-ft).
M6 competition package sets new speed mark
The new M6 Coupe has been tested by BMW M GmbH to a new personal best: 0–200 km/h (124 mph) in 11.8 seconds. This new speed mark is 0.6 seconds faster than with the previous version of the Competition Package (423 kW/575 hp). All three M6 models when equipped with the new optional comp package are quick. M6 Coupe and M6 Gran Coupe sprints from 0-100 km in just 3.9 seconds or 4.0 seconds in the BMW M6 Convertible. Top speed of all Competition models is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), but can be pushed to 305 km/h (189 mph) by specifying the optional M Driver’s Package.
The M6‘s 4.4-liter V8 comes mated to a 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) with Drivelogic that transfers all that power to the rear wheels. The stock M6 Coupe without the comp package will launch from 0-62 in 4.2 seconds (BMW M6 Convertible 4.3 sec., BMW M6 Gran Coupe 4.2 sec.)...read more.
Enhanced driving dynamics
BMW M GmbH engineers developed the new M6 Competition Package with improved handling characteristics for pushing the performance envelope. It comes with upgraded chassis technology that’s tuned precisely to the performance characteristics of the powertrain. Springs, dampers and anti-roll bars all get firmer tuning. The Active M Differential works to further improve traction, allowing the driver to accelerate even more quickly out of tight corners, for example. The steering with M-specific Servotronic function has more direct mapping while the M Dynamic Mode of the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system is focused on delivering sportier handling.
Outside, the BMW M6 Competition models come with exclusive 20-inch M light-alloy wheels (double-spoke 601M, bi-color) and mixed tires, plus black chrome twin tailpipes for the sports exhaust system. The new Competition Package for the 2015 BMW M6 Coupe, BMW M6 Gran Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible will be available stating in July 2015.
