The 2021 Subaru Outback is up for the best value of 2021 award. See why it’s a top-three contender.

What SUV offers the best value for consumers? According to the Best Value of 2021 awards by Cars.com, the 2021 Subaru Outback is a top-three contender for its annual Award. They choose from a long list of new cars regardless of when they were introduced or last updated. The three favorites picked are based on features, warranties, and overall performance for the money.

The 2021 Subaru Outback midsize wagon/crossover was chosen as a final nominee along with the 2021 Hyundai Tucson compact SUV and the 2021 Hyundai Venue small SUV. The Outback competes in the competitive midsize SUV/crossover segment and was an all-new model in 2020.

For the 2021 model year, the Outback was upgraded with new safety technology “while keeping its cost reasonable,” making it a top pick for SUV shoppers. All 2021 Outback trims were also upgraded with steering responsive LED headlights, passenger seat belt reminder as well as a rear-seat reminder.

The curve-adaptive LED headlights were previously only available on Limited and Touring trims. The upgrades give Outback improved safety ratings on lower trims with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

What sets the 2021 Outback apart from other SUVs is its standard all-wheel-drive, X-Mode with hill-descent control, and 8.7-inches of ground clearance. You can read our recent report on why Outback is the best choice for winter driving here

What is the price of the 2021 Subaru Outback?

The 2021 Outback comes in seven trim levels, base $27,845, Premium ($30,095), Limited ($34,645), Onyx Edition XT ($36,195), Limited XT ($38,545), Touring ($39,045), and Touring XT ($40,995). Pricing includes $1,050 destination.

The Outback price also includes the brand’s EyeSight driver-assist safety technology, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.

The 2021 Subaru Outback was just given the Vincentric 2021 Best Value in America Award. The Award says the Outback is now the lowest cost to own in its class. You can read our recent report on the Award here

Cars.com says the 2021 Subaru Outback earns a chance at the best value award because “it’s a well-executed, versatile family vehicle that delivers comfort and utility.” The Award will be announced on February 18. Stay tuned.
