The ultra-rare BMW 507 was once owned by Elvis. It’s been restored and will surface in Pebble Beach.
Elvis Presley was a rare breed and so is the BMW 507 he owned. When can you see it? The completely restored roadster once owned by the “King of Rock’n’Roll” can be seen for the first time in public at the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, California. The iconic car will be exhibited on August 21, 2016.
The car disappeared for 50 years
Elvis owned this rare sports car at that time he was doing his military service in Germany. His BMW 507 disappeared for nearly 50 years and was believed to have been lost before being found and then restored. It was in seriously bad shape missing its engine and transmission.
A project managed by BMW Group Classic brought the iconic car back to life. It took nearly two years for the restoration project to be finished and it can now be seen for the first time in a public arena. BMW says it’s been restored to its original condition.
The BMW 507 is ultra-rare
The BMW 507 is one of the most exclusive and sought-after rarities in the model history of the brand. BMW says just 254 507s were produced between 1955 and 1959. Elvis took delivery of the Feather White BMW 507 on December 20, 1958. It’s powered by a 150 hp V8 aluminum engine, and features center-lock rims, black-and-white interior and a Becker Mexico radio.
In the fall of 1958, at a BMW dealer in Frankfurt, the 23 year-old Elvis came along and took it out on a test drive. The “King” was immediately impressed by it and decided to buy the sports car. Now Elvis’ BMW 507 with chassis number 70079 will be on view for visitors at Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach. It’s exactly as it was when the iconic singer took delivery of the car.
