The all-new European spec 2015 Subaru Outback is at the Geneva International Motor Show. With supply so limited, will Europe even get the popular wagon?
The new 2015 Subaru Outback wagon is the hottest car in the brands lineup and now it’s launching in Europe. The new-generation SUV-alternative Outback is flying off dealer lots in North America and supply is extremely limited. Fuji Heavy Industries is manufacturing the cars at the Indiana plant in the U.S. and capacity won’t be increased until 2016. It will be interesting to see if Europe can even get the new-generation wagons until the 2016 model year.
European spec Outback gets safer
The European spec 2015 Subaru Outback comes for the first time to the European market with Subaru’s new-generation EyeSight safety system. Thanks to its improved safety performance, Outback has received the highest safety rating of 5 stars based on the results of tests by Euro NCAP.
New interior upgrades
Subaru was able to increase the usable volume while preserving the ride quality of the wagon. Subaru engineers changed the shape of the roof to provide additional space in the cabin. They increased the width of seats, shoulder and elbow room and legroom in the back seat also increased. The new generation Outback comes with an optional power tailgate for the first time. The new tailgate can be customized to raise to a specific height opening.
New chassis enhancements
The chassis, steering, suspension, brakes and other drivetrain components have been redesigned to improve on road performance. Subaru’s boxer engine sits lower in the chassis, and even with Outback’s higher ground clearance, the wagon is stable on the highway. The steering gear ratio has been reduced from 16.5 to 14.0, making the vehicle more maneuverable for urban commuting.
DON’T MISS: Subaru creates a problem for an active generation with 2015 Outback
Outback is a true off-road warrior and comes with Subaru’s standard Symmetrical AWD system. The new Outback is also equipped with X-MODE that allows for better performance when driving off-road. X-MODE maintains optimum engine control, all-wheel drive function, braking and other systems when driving on slick surfaces. Outback also comes with Hill Descent Control that allows the driver to tackle steep slopes and still maintain control at a low speed.
The all-new 2015 Subaru Outback makes its European debut at the Geneva International Motor Show that runs March 5-15. With sales of the new SUV-alternative vehicle at record levels, will Europeans even be able to get the popular wagon? Stay tuned.
