The new 2016 BMW 3 Series is the top seller for the brand around the globe. What did BMW start building 100 years ago?
The BMW brand is celebrating their 100 year anniversary and will party in a big way at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion this week. The celebration starts today and runs through August 21, 2016 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on the scenic Monterey Peninsula. BMW perfected and refined the 3 Series and all other vehicles on racing circuits all over the globe and it’s a perfect stage on which to celebrate their rich heritage.
Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America, LLC. “The BMW brand and the legend of The Ultimate Driving Machine was forged on and continues to be refined on racing circuits all over the world. In the United States, Laguna Seca has played a starring role. This year, our BMW Z4 GTLM racing cars finished 1-2 in IMSA competition there - almost 40 years to the date a BMW 3.0 CSL won our very first race on the classic circuit. BMW is delighted to be able to share our passion for great automobiles and motorsport with the world next year.”
Bavarian Motor Works was started by Karl Rapp and Gustav Otto and began as an aircraft engine manufacturer, adding motorcycles in 1923 and automobiles in 1928. Today they are well respected and known as a premium brand that offers “The Ultimate Driving Machine.” This event will show where the company has been and where they are headed in the future. The future looks like it will be filled with more performance machines from the Bavarian automaker.
BMW will bring the iconic 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL to the celebration along with the Hommage 3.0 CSL that was just unveiled at Monterey Car Week at Pebble Beach along with the M4 GTS Concept that will be headed to series production. The BMW 3 Series may be the global sales leader in the lineup, but it’s the 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL that will be a star of the show this week.
