BMW introduces the all-new 2016 M2 Coupe. How much power will the high-performance coupe be producing?
The all-new 2016 BMW M2 Coupe is here and it’s going to be a fun ride for performance enthusiasts. It has more torque than past generation M3’s, comes standard with impressive performance from the TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter powerplant, features a lightweight aluminum suspension, comes with a manual gearbox with rev-matching technology, a fully variable Active M differential and high performance brakes.
Today, we’ll check out the impressive performance from the new M2 that produces more power than its predecessor, the BMW 1 M Coupe. The M2 comes with a TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter 6-cylinder inline engine that pumps out an impressive 365 bhp and 343 lb-ft of torque. This is more than 70 lb-ft of additional torque than the past generation M3 produced.
BMW is sending a message with the M2 that the compact performance car segment will never be the same. Like the M3, BMW will try to own the segment with a sports car that will thrill performance fans on a budget. The high-performance coupe also features an overboost function that raises the horsepower figure by 26 lb-ft to 369 lb-ft between 1,450 and 4,750 rpm. This will put the M2 high on the fun-to drive meter.
When the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six is mated to the optional M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) and with the launch control activated, the new BMW M2 sprints from 0-60 mph in a quick 4.2 seconds (4.4 s with the six-speed manual gearbox). The top speed of the all-new BMW M2 is electronically limited to 155 mph.
The all-new 2016 BMW M2 will be available in BMW showrooms starting in spring of 2016. Price and options will be announced closer to market launch. Want more information on the new BMW M2? Check back each day as we focus on different aspects of the performance coupe.
