There is good news for 2021 Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, and Ascent shoppers. New 2021 models are arriving daily.

Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, and Ascent models have been in short supply the last few months, but that is changing. Subaru’s plant shutdowns due to COVID-19 created a shortage of some new models, especially the Forester. A new report from Cox Automotive says inventory is up from where they were a month ago, and that’s good news for customers.

A report from Automotive News says while automakers have increased inventory levels, its Data Center says all automakers report their stocks growing month over month. Still, Subaru continues to hold the tightest supply, at just 25 days. The average for all automakers in the U.S. stands at 65 days supply.

If you have shopped for a new 2020 Subaru Forester, you know how few models retailers have on their lot. Subaru reports that they have 40,300 Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, and Ascent models on hand in November.

The number includes vehicles on hand at retailers, factory lots, ports of entry, and cars in transit. Subaru’s SUV inventory is still the tightest, with the automaker showing a 22 day supply on November 1 but improved from October 1 (15 days).

Production of the Ascent and Outback manufactured in Lafayette, Indiana, is almost back to 2019 levels. Outback had 145,807 units for the ten months last year compared with 140,723 this year. Ascent models had 73,317 last year and 56,819 this year through the first ten months.

The 2021 Subaru Forester and Crosstrek, made at the Gunma factory in Japan, does not release numbers for those models. Subaru would typically have most vehicles changed over to the 2021 model change by October, but there has been a delay for the new model change.

Subaru retailers are now getting some 2021 models in and have 2021 Forester models in now. A Subaru retailer near Denver reports to Torque News, they have a handful of 2021 Forester models, “but they are selling as fast as they are arriving.”

Customers looking for new 2021 Subaru models will now have more inventory to choose from this month. The 2021 Subaru Forester is still in short supply, but new models are arriving daily.
