Is Subaru’s infotainment system easy to use? Subaru has won Wards 10 Best UX now four years in-a-row. Both 2020 Subaru Outback and Legacy take top honors.

There is nothing more frustrating than getting in a new car and not being able to perform simple functions like tuning the radio or adjusting the climate control. It’s why Wards Auto tests new cars to see how user friendly their new infotainment systems are. Four new Subaru models are rated the best in user experience, according to Wards.

One new winner of the Wards 10 Best UX for 2020 is the 2020 Subaru Legacy. The newly-remodeled Legacy is the fourth consecutive winner following last year’s award-winning 2020 Outback, the Ascent in 2018 and Impreza in 2017.

Wards 10 Best UX winners are singled out for ease of use of the car’s new technology. The 2020 Subaru Legacy and Outback both received a complete remodel and come with a new 11.6-inch multimedia screen, easy-to-decipher menus and standard advanced driver-assist safety technologies.

Wards Auto says the new 2020 Legacy has some of the best-performing driver-assist technology in any vehicle evaluated. Dave Zoia, one of the judges says, “The adaptive cruise control function (with the standard EyeSight driver assist) works well, maintaining distance and slowing the car to a stop in a linear fashion.”

They also like Legacy’s big 11.6-inch multimedia screen also found on the 2020 Outback, that has an “easy-to-navigate menu and large app tiles,” and the infotainment system’s user friendliness.

Other things singled out as best for users is the “great connectivity” with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Wi-Fi, and there are plenty of USB ports and outlets to stay connected. “We find the phone pairing intuitive and one of the quickest pairing processes we’ve ever experienced,” says Wards.

Other Legacy features signed out for the best customer user experience are the new DriverFocus technology, which in conjunction with EyeSight, use the car’s camera to detect driver drowsiness or distraction.

The new Subaru Legacy and Outback ride on the same platform, share the same technology, and are made along side each other at the Subaru plant in Lafayette, Indiana.

Wards says the 2020 Subaru Outback and Legacy’s “Overall user friendliness has certainly caught up with, and in some ways exceeded, its competitive set.” Both models are easy to live with and their infotainment system won’t leave you frustrated and scratching your head.
