If you are looking to buy a 2020 Subaru Outback, it has just earned more top safety ratings from IIHS. See how it performs in pedestrian crash prevention.

Even though Subaru shows the new 2020 Outback in wilderness settings being used for outdoor activities, most owners will be driving the SUV in city settings. It’s good news for urban customers because the newly-redesigned Outback just earned another top safety rating. It’s not a surprise since Subaru is one of the leading automakers when it comes to safety, and it’s one of the brand’s core values and they excel in this important area.

In a new Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) safety study, the 2020 Subaru Outback earns a superior rating in its newest pedestrian crash prevention testing. What does it mean for mid-size car shoppers? The new Outback SUV/Crossover can “see” a pedestrian that is in front of you or coming from the side of the vehicle and the car can automatically stop the vehicle before the pedestrian is hit.

In IIHS testing, the new Outback will avoid a collision with a pedestrian or slow the vehicle substantially and reduce the risk of injury. The Subaru Outback scored the highest rating in the midsize car category along with more expensive luxury models like the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, and Volvo S60.

"Carmakers often roll out these kinds of advanced systems in more expensive luxury lines or as expensive options, so the superior performance of the standard systems on the more mainstream Subaru Outback is noteworthy," says IIHS President David Harkey.

It’s important for consumers to know, the 2020 Outback comes with EyeSight as standard equipment, not as an expensive option. The safety system is mounted on the inside of the windshield just above the rearview mirror and acts as a second set of eyes detecting pedestrians before the driver might see them. The Highway Loss Data Institute found that EyeSight cut insurance claims for injuries to pedestrians by 35 percent.

The IIHS has found pedestrian crashes have become both deadlier and more frequent. The increase has been mostly in urban or suburban areas, away from intersections, on busy main roads and in the dark. IIHS says crashes are increasingly likely to involve SUVs and high-horsepower vehicles.

Subaru is an industry leader when it comes to occupant and pedestrian safety. The newly-redesigned 2020 Subaru Outback earns the highest scores in preventing pedestrian crashes.

This will be my first Subaru and I can’t wait. while waiting for my Subaru to come in my research into my new lower insurance rates due to all the safety features along with my lower registration is very encouraging... not to mention I will now be able to go back to regular gas and greatly improve my mileage.I am still expecting further discounts from State Farm as soon as the underwriters finalize their review.
