The new BMW M3/M4 Competition Package adds even more power and performance to the BMW M3/M4 performance cars. How much will it cost?
For those wanting more horsepower and performance from their M3/M4, BMW’s new Competition Package will give it to them. Starting this spring, BMW M GmbH will offer a special Competition Package for performance enthusiasts who want more. How much more? The package will bump up the power from 425hp to 444 horsepower, a 19hp increase over the standard 3.0-liter engine. But it doesn’t come cheap. How about $5,500.
What do you get?
The Competition Package comes with extensive handling upgrades for the price. The package includes Adaptive M Suspension which features new springs, dampers and anti-roll bars, along with reconfigured driving modes (Comfort, Sport and Sport+). The standard Active M Differential and DSC Dynamic Stability Control have both been configured to handle the upgraded dynamics. The M3/M4 package also includes forged, machine-polished, weight-and rigidity-optimized, multi-spoke 20-inch M alloy wheels (front 9J ×20; rear10 J ×20) with mixed tires sizes (front: 265/30 R20, rear: 285/30 R20).
Upgrades inside and outside
Inside, the performance models get lightweight M sports seats for added support on the track and BMW says they are more comfortable for everyday use. Seat belts with woven-in BMW M stripes finish out the interior upgrades. Outside, you can set your M3/M4 apart with its Shadow Line exterior trim from BMW Individual. The Competition Package features a high-gloss Black finish on the BMW kidney grille, the side gills and the model badge on the tail. The package also features an M sports exhaust system with black chrome tailpipes to set it off ebbed more from the standard models.
What are the Comp package additions worth from 0-60?
BMW M says with the Competition Package, the M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe with optional 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M-DCT) will sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds (without Competition Package: 3.9 sec.). The M4 Convertible goes from 0-60 in 4.1 seconds (without Competition Package: 4.2 sec). Models equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission are also 0.1 seconds faster with the package.
If you want the extra power and performance over the standard models, you’ll have to shell out an extra $5,500 on the BMW M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe and $5,000 on the M4 Convertible. It’s the price you will have to pay for a 0.1 second faster 0-60 time and to look better doing it.
