The Subaru Forester, is Subaru’s number one selling vehicle around the globe, but Crosstrek is catching up. See how Crosstrek closed the gap in the US.
Globally, Subaru Corporation sells more Forester SUVs than any of their other all-wheel-drive vehicles, but things are changing for the Japanese automaker. Consumers are responding to the all-new redesigned 2018 Crosstrek in a big way, especially in the US. Did you know, Subaru of America (SOA) sold 143 more 2018 Foresters than all-new 2018 Crosstreks in May? This was the smallest volume gap ever between the two nameplates.
Crosstrek had its best May ever, with a sales increase of 74.4 percent over the same month in 2017 and it helped SOA mark the best month ever for the Subaru brand. Outback posted a nearly 10 percent increase, while WRX/STI posted 2.1 percent increase in May. SOA sold 14,387 Crosstreks last month compared with 8,250 units in May 2017. SOA sold 14,530 Foresters in the U.S. last month. The all-new fifth-generation model isn’t due out until this fall.
In Canada, Crosstrek is also on fire. Leading the charge again for Subaru Canada Inc, was the hot-selling Crosstrek, with the 1,532 units retailed in May a 94.9 percent increase over the same month last year, and an all-time best for the compact crossover. Crosstrek beat both Forester and Outback in sales up north of the border making it even more impressive.
Consumers like the Crosstrek’s new redesign as it now rides on the new Subaru Global Platform giving it more room inside, an improved ride, more horsepower and improved fuel-efficiency. The new crossover is now equipped with X-Mode for enhanced drivability on poor road surfaces and gains real off-road capability for urban-adventurers who will use the small crossover to get away from civilization. This will make the 2018 Crosstrek a true off-roader and more than a compact commuter.
