How safe is the 2021 Subaru Forester? The Forester just scored best among the top compact SUVs.

Which compact SUVs have the most safety features as standard equipment? A new report from Consumer Reports (by subscription) says the 2021 Subaru Forester is the best compact SUV, $25,000 to $35,000 with active safety features as standard. Forester also earned top safety crash scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Consumer Reports rated the compact SUVs for standard forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and blind spot warning. All 2021 Subaru Forester trims get forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection as part of the standard EyeSight safety system.

CR ranks the Forester number one among the top eight compact SUVs

The 2021 Subaru Forester scores 89 and the number one overall ranked compact SUV of sixteen models. With active safety features, Forester is followed by the Mazda CX-5 (83), Honda CR-V (82), Lexus UX (81), Nissan Rogue (76), Volvo XC40 (73), Mini Cooper Countryman (72), and Toyota RAV4 (69).

CR says the compact SUVs also had to receive high marks for reliability and road tests. The Forester is the only model among the eight that comes standard with all-wheel-drive, another severe weather safety feature.

How safe is the 2021 Subaru Forester?

The 2021 Subaru Forester has the top safety score for 2021 from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Forester earned the highest Top Safety Pick+ award. With standard EyeSight safety technology, Subaru Forester received a "Superior" rating in front crash prevention from the IIHS.

What is the price of the 2021 Subaru Forester?

The 2021 Forester comes in five trim levels, and the base trim has an MSRP of $25,845, Premium ($28,845), Sport ($30,445), Limited ($32,445), and Touring ($35,945). Pricing includes a $1,050 destination fee. Consumer Reports says the average transaction price for the 2021 Forester Premium is $26,310 after dealer incentives.
