Is the 2021 Subaru Outback a good value for midsize SUV shoppers? Subaru of America (SOA) announced 2021 Subaru Outback May sales and is selling well ahead of the 2022 model change. SOA reported retailers delivered 13,994 models to customers compared with 11,382 during the same period last year. That's a 23.0 percent increase over May 2020.
Outback moved ahead of the Forester in a key category; Year-to-date Outback now leads in its percentage of increase over last year, 36.8 percent, compared with Forester's 31.3 percent. Forester remains the top-selling model in 2021.
If you want a 2021 Outback, you should look for one this month. Because of the plant shutdown at Subaru Indiana Automotive, inventory is low. The largest retailer in Colorado has only 17 Outback models on their lot to sell as of this report.
Jeff Walters, Senior Vice President of Sales, Subaru of America, says, "As anticipated, the global microchip shortage continues to impact production and inventory levels throughout the auto industry."
What is the price of the 2021 Subaru Outback?
The 2021 Outback comes in seven trim levels, base $27,845, Premium ($30,095), Limited ($34,645), Onyx Edition XT ($36,195), Limited XT ($38,545), Touring ($39,045), and Touring XT ($40,995). Pricing includes $1,050 destination.
Subaru announced pricing and features for the 2022 model year Outback including the all-new Outback Wilderness sub-brand trim level. The new 2022 models should arrive this summer.
What new for 2022?
Customers don't have to buy aftermarket LED fog lights any longer. The newest upgrade for 2022 Outback are LED fog lights, now standard equipment on all trim levels. They should improve night-time visibility and safety. 2022 Outback Premium trims now feature rear ventilation in the center console for enhanced climate control throughout the cabin.
What is the price of the 2022 Subaru Outback?
The 2022 Outback comes in eight trim levels; the base trim is priced from $27,845, Premium ($30,270), Limited ($34,720), Touring ($38,620), Onyx Edition XT ($36,270), new for 2022, Outback Wilderness ($38,120), Limited XT ($39,120), and Touring XT ($41,070). Pricing includes $1,125 destination and delivery fees.
Before the 2022 Outback model change, the 2021 Outback passes Forester in YTD increase and remains a fan favorite among midsize SUVs.
