The 2021 Subaru WRX and WRX STI performance cars lead the brand in two categories. Check out where it's now ahead of all Subaru nameplates.
The 2021 Subaru WRX and WRX STI performance cars stay hot ahead of the next-generation 2022 WRX reveal coming this month. Subaru of America reported August sales, and the WRX and WRX STI lead all nameplates in the percentage of sales increase up 80.1 percent over August 2020. Subaru delivered 2,194 WRX and STI to customers compared with 1,218 in August 2020.
The 2021 WRX and STI are up 40.1 percent through the first eight months of the year. This is unique because the sport-tuned WRX and performance-tuned STI lead the top-selling Forester (+2.1 percent), Outback (+29.8 percent), and Crosstrek (+37.3 percent) in the percentage of increase year-to-date for the first time.

It's not all good for WRX and STI buyers. The 2021 WRX and STI have been in high demand all year, but now they are among the top new cars selling well above the MSRP. Autotrader released a new report naming the Toughest Twenty: 20 new vehicles consistently selling above full retail price.
Autotrader identified the WRX and STI as the thirteenth-highest new vehicle, consistently selling at 102 percent of the manufactures suggested retail price (MSRP). We have reports buyers are paying more than that.

Performance car buyers are willing to pay above sticker price to get a new 2021 WRX or STI because used prices for the performance models have gone through the roof. We recently reported that a used 2019-2020 Subaru WRX or STI is selling for more now than a new 2021 model year.
The microchip shortage has reduced the number of new 2021 models arriving from Japan, and they are in tight supply. Most 2021 Subaru WRX and STI performance sedans are already pre-sold before they hit the dealers' lots.
We checked the largest volume Subaru dealer in the Rocky Mountain region, and they have one 2021 WRX Limited trim in transit from Japan and no 2021 WRX STI models available for sale.

The 2021 Subaru WRX and 2021 Subaru WRX STI are in high demand and hard to find. They are selling as fast as retailers can get them, and you'll pay more than the sticker price if you can find one. Up next is the 2022 WRX global reveal. Check it out in the link below.
