Do Subaru vehicles retain their value better than other automakers? Subaru picks up three new individual segment awards from KBB. Check out the three new Subaru models that score the highest.
As soon as you drive your new car off a dealer's lot, it drops in value. And some automakers' vehicles depreciate more than others. Which models retain their value the best? According to Kelly Blue Book's (KBB) 2022 Best Resale Value Awards, Subaru earned three individual segment honors.
Subaru's three new segment winners in 2022 are Subaru of America's top three selling SUVs. The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek scores the best Subcompact SUV, the 2022 Subaru Forester wins the Compact SUV segment, and the 2022 Subaru Outback takes home the best Midsize SUV 2-row award. Last year, the 2021 Impreza won Best Compact Car but lost to the Honda Civic in 2022.
Subaru has won the Best Brand award four times before in 2011, 2015, 2016, and 2020. Toyota wins the Best Brand award for the second year in a row.
KBB's Top-10 Best Resale Value winners
Listed alphabetically, they are the Chevrolet Corvette, Ford F-Series, Ford Maverick, Ford Ranger, GMC Sierra, Jeep Gladiator, Tesla Model X, Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Tacoma, and Toyota Tundra.
What does it mean for new car shoppers?
KBB's Best Resale Value Awards recognize 2022 model-year vehicles for their projected retained value through the initial five-year ownership period. These latest KBB accolades for Subaru let consumers know that they retain their value better than other models. This can make the most significant difference when you trade in your vehicle after 3-5 years. You'll get more for your trade-in than other automakers' vehicles.
If you plan on keeping your new car for 3-5 years, depreciation (loss of value) is typically your primary expense during ownership. It shows shoppers which vehicle will be the best in resale value.
A good example is the value of a one-to-two-year-old lightly used Subaru Crosstrek will now cost buyers more than a new one. You know this is true if you've tried to purchase a previously owned Crosstrek. This is especially true if you live in the Northeast, Rocky Mountains, or Pacific Northwest, where the brand is most popular.
