The CAR Management Briefing Seminars have been flagship events for more than 45 years, and one of the critical connection points for North American automotive participants and, by extension, the global industry. Leaders this year will share their vision of the industry’s future and its connection to success in Traverse City from August 1 - 4.

For the record, the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) is a nonprofit organization, focused on a wide variety of important trends and changes related to the automobile industry and society at the international, federal, state and local levels.

CAR conducts industry research, develops new methodologies, forecasts industry trends, advises on public policy, and sponsors multi-stakeholder communication forums, like the one scheduled the first week in August, 2011 in Traverse City, Michigan.

At this year’s kickoff session of the 4-day event, key executives from Chrysler, General Motors, Toyota and Volkswagen will give their insight on manufacturing excellence. Speakers for first day kickoff will include:

Don Jackson , president, Manufacturing, Volkswagen Chattanooga Operations;
Kenneth Knight , executive director, Global and North America Manufacturing Engineering, General Motors;
Kevin Butt , general manager/chief environmental/safety officer of Environmental/Safety Engineering, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc.; and
Massimo Risi , head of World Class Manufacturing, Chrysler Group LLC.

Chaired by Jay Baron, CAR's CEO and president, the sessions on Monday, Aug. 1 will focus on achieving world class manufacturing systems.

For the record, this Torque News reporter will also be in attendance with a media pass at the 2011 CAR Management Briefing Seminar, now in its 46th year. I know many attendees are looking forward to staying at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, but I will be staying with my wife on the East Bay, where I will be able to spend more time with my sister, Dorothy, who lives in that area; and my other sister, Joan, and my brother-in-law, Larry, for a long-awaited family summer reunion.

Aside from interviews, photos and my usual video reports, I registered for two specific seminar sessions from which I will report here at TorqueNews.com
